Healthy Living
All Horizons programs offer daily structured recreation, typically through swimming, outdoor education, yoga, organized fitness games, or dance. The happy result: better self-confidence and better fitness.
Nutrition is important, too. Horizons students receive a healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack every day. Cooking and gardening are woven into academic instruction at many sites, and others make field trips to farmers’ markets and grocery stores that emphasize fresh produce.
Horizons students bring these experiential healthy living lessons into the classroom by calculating calories consumed and burned, reading stories about gardening and nutritious foods, and writing reflections on new healthy experiences.
